Awards of Achievement

Awards of Achievement are given by the American Craft Council to recognize outstanding quality in the work of artists exhibiting in the annual Council Shows. Awards are selected by invited experts who evaluate exhibited works according to the following criteria.

  • The work evidences understanding of the elements of art and design--line, shape, value, texture and color--and the principles of organization--proportion, balance, harmony, rhythm, contrast, repetition and variety.
  • The work evidences mastery of materials and techniques--their possibilities, limitations and appropriateness--in the expression of ideas.
  • The work evidences imagination, inventiveness and individuality.
  • The work evidences aesthetic consistency.
  • Functional works evidence awareness of ergonomic relationships.
